A random NHL team generator picks one of hockey’s 32 teams at random. Spin, and it lands on a franchise with every team having the same chance. It’s built for NHL franchise and Be A GM runs, fantasy draft order, and trivia. Reroll for a fresh team anytime.

You’ve got a team. Here’s how hockey fans use it.

Why spin a random NHL team?

The NHL has a real spread between deep contenders and teams stuck in a rebuild, which makes a random franchise draw a genuine challenge in Be A GM or franchise mode. You take the cap sheet and prospect pool you’re dealt and try to build a cup run from it. Fantasy pools use the picker to set draft order. And it’s a fair way to adopt a playoff team once yours is eliminated.

The picker spans the Eastern and Western Conferences. Filter to one conference before spinning, or narrow to a division for a tighter challenge.

Splitting a beer-league or pickup hockey roster into sides is a separate job. The team generator handles that.

Frequently asked questions

How many teams does the NHL generator cover?

All 32 NHL teams, across the Eastern and Western Conferences. You can spin the whole league or filter to one conference or division first, so the pick only comes from the teams you want. The list is pulled from the site’s data and stays current.

Is the NHL team pick fair?

Yes. It uses a Fisher-Yates shuffle, the standard unbiased method, so every team has an equal chance whether it’s a cup favourite or a rebuild. No franchise is weighted. The spin animation is only a visual and doesn’t change the result.

Can I use it for an NHL franchise challenge?

Yes, it’s a common use. Spin for a random team and run them in Be A GM or franchise mode. For a harder run, filter to a conference and pick a team outside the playoff picture, then build them back up. A team you didn’t choose makes the rebuild feel like a real test.

Can it set my fantasy hockey draft order?

Yes. Spin to assign draft slots or teams at random. Every outcome is equally likely, so no one can say the draw was rigged. Share the result link so the whole pool sees the same order, and reroll if you need to run it again.
