Privacy Policy: What Teams Generator Collects
Teams Generator runs entirely in your browser, and the names you paste never leave your device. The site does use Google Analytics to count visits, which sets cookies and shares some standard technical data with Google. This page explains exactly what’s collected, what isn’t, and why, in plain terms rather than legal boilerplate.

- We don’t sell data, run ads, or ask you to sign up. There’s no account and no login.

What we don’t collect
The tool splits teams, generates names, and builds brackets using code that runs on your own device. That means:
- The names, lists, and any text you paste or type into any tool on this site are never sent to our servers. We don’t have servers doing that work, and we never see your input.
- We don’t ask for your name, email, or any personal detail to use the tools. There’s no signup.
- Share links encode your list inside the URL itself. When you copy or open one, the data travels in the link, not through us. You control who you send it to. Be aware that anyone with the link can see the list inside it, so treat links with real names the way you’d treat the names themselves.
What we do collect: analytics
To understand which pages are useful and how the site is doing, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a service from Google. When you visit, GA4 collects standard technical information, including:
- Pages you view and how long you spend on them
- Your approximate location (usually city or region level, from your IP address)
- Your device type, browser, and operating system
- How you arrived at the site, such as a search or a link
GA4 sets cookies on your device and processes some of this data on Google’s systems. This helps us see, for example, that the classroom page is popular or that a page is confusing enough that people leave quickly. It does not tell us who you are personally, and it never includes the list of names you put into the tools, because that data never leaves your browser in the first place.

Cookies
The cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and are used to tell repeat visits apart and measure usage over time. They don’t identify you by name. If you’d rather not be counted, you have a few options:
- Use your browser’s settings to block or delete cookies.
- Turn on your browser’s “Do Not Track” or tracking-protection features.
- Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which stops GA data from being sent.
Blocking these cookies doesn’t break any of the tools. Everything still works, because the tools don’t depend on them.
What we honestly can’t claim
We’re not going to tell you this site does no tracking, because that wouldn’t be true: Google Analytics is tracking in the ordinary sense of the word. What we can say honestly is narrower and more useful. The content you put into the tools stays on your device, and we don’t build a profile of you, sell anything, or share your input with anyone. The analytics is aggregate usage measurement, nothing more.
Children’s privacy
Teachers use this site with class lists, and we’ve built it so that’s safe: student names entered into the tools never leave the device. The site itself isn’t directed at children as an audience, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children through the analytics, which measures site usage rather than identifying individuals.
Changes to this policy
If we change what’s collected, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected here rather than announced separately, so it’s worth a glance if you’re a regular user.
